New features in Public Beta 9

First of all, an apology from all of us — we’ve promised to make freezing row/column part of this release. We didn’t, at last, because there are still quite a few bugs there that we’d like to have fixed before releasing this feature to public. We target to release this as a patch to the current release by the end of this week.

Nonetheless there are still a couple of new features that we’re sure you’ll find exciting. In addition to the revamped home page, which I am sure you have already noticed and as introduced by Tony on another post below, we have also deployed the Spanish version interface to the main site. On this I must congratulate all the faithful contributors of the Spanish translation spreadsheet under our ELP, which is our bold experience of localisation in the Web 2.0 way. And we can see that it is heading towards a success here.

Another new feature worthy of note is the deep permalink. You may now go directly to a specific sheet inside a spreadsheet by typing this in your browser’s location bar: www.editgrid.com/tnc/cliff/Real-time_Portfolio_Valuation/Sheet1. Better still you may directly point to the content of a specific cell using this: www.editgrid.com/tnc/cliff/Real-time_Portfolio_Valuation/Sheet1!D7. And these are just the beginning — we target to enhance this feature with range-level permalink, and more, in forthcoming releases.

Finally, you may now upload a new version of an existing spreadsheet from your computer to EditGrid — so that instead of creating a new EditGrid spreadsheet, you also have the option to upload it to an existing EditGrid spreadsheet as a new revision. This will bring great comfort to those users to frequently edit the same spreadsheet on both EditGrid and desktop applications back and forth.
